Bringing Tapping into the Workplace

The importance of employee well-being is critical to, and for, the overall productivity, focus, creativity, and safety within a workplace setting. An organization that seeks to promote and optimize employee health, with a specific focus on impacts to mental health due to chronic stress that may contribute to feelings of burnout, can greatly enhance employee well-being and therefore, positive impacts within the work environment. Some of these could include reduced absenteeism, reduced turnover, and reduced healthcare expenditures.

Additionally, organizations that promote and encourage wellness programs focusing on mental health convey an overall culture that recognizes the importance of seeing the whole human being- not simply in one's capacity of worker/employee- and rather, as an individual that carries a lived history outside of the workplace, though certainly not separate from the workplace; for it is understood that personal life stressors carry over into the workplace and vice versa. Bottom line, in advocating for mental health initiatives within the workplace there is advocacy for the whole person, not simply their role as employee.

So what is tapping and why would an organization consider bringing it into the organization?

Tapping, also known as Emotional Freedom Techniques, is a set of techniques that promote nervous system regulation, oftentimes reported as a calming within the body. While that may sound subjective in nature, tapping's effectiveness has received substantial scientific investigation and research. Some of those have revealed the following:

  • Tapping has been shown to reduce cortisol, a stress hormone.

  • Tapping has been shown to reduce the activation of the amygdala, the brain's stress response center.

Tapping is a technique that is self applied; therefore, once the technique has been taught and integrated, an individual carries empowerment to use the technique at any point to bring about nervous system regulation. The individual carries his/her healing within his/her own hands. While seeing a therapist or practitioner who is trained in this technique is recommended for trauma specific work, tapping as self applied for stress is absolutely possible and encouraged.

If the above information has contributed to a curious skepticism about tapping and its benefits, let's chat. I welcome you to contact me to schedule a consultation so I can answer your questions and share more of what I can bring into your organization to advocate for the mental health needs of the individuals that are serving a vital role within the life and culture of the organization.

Individuals are more than the role that they do.

Individuals are more than the work they provide.

Individuals carry more than a work identity.

They are whole beings.

And as whole beings, advocating for resources to support and encourage positive impacts to mental health promotes awareness of the value each individual is to the organization's success, as well as the success of each individual.

Suite of Options

As a consultant, I am prepared to come into your organization and offer a series of workshops, similar to a lunch and learn, that provides education on the impact of stress and then teaches a method to bring about reduced nervous system activation and greater regulation.

Seeking Businesses to Pilot this Program

As these workshops are being formally introduced and offered;  trusting that these opportunities could carry significant impact for employee health and well-being; and also, carrying passion and enthusiasm for tapping and what is possible, I am currently looking for a few businesses that carry an eagerness and willingness to participate in a pilot program of these workshops.

The opportunity to bring this to your employees, receive feedback, and witness impacts, would help provide future direction for this important and meaningful work.
